Measurements

The entrance faces east; holiness increases toward the west. Every figure below is a cubit from the vision's own measuring reed — 6 long cubits, each "a cubit and a handbreadth" (≈21 in / 53 cm) — 40:5.

The Complex

The Hebrew of 42:20 measures the boundary wall in reeds — 500 reeds² ≈ 3,000 cubits² (about a mile), dwarfing everything inside it. Most translations and diagrams read it as 500 cubits² instead, which is what's modeled here; toggle it off to focus on the courts.

Chapters 40–42 give exact gate, court, and sanctuary footprints, but not one building height. Ezekiel 41 reuses Solomon's temple's exact floor plan for the nave (40×20) and inner sanctuary (20×20), so their heights here are borrowed from Solomon's own figures rather than guessed — 30 cubits and 20 cubits (1 Kings 6:2, 6:20) — and the porch's 20 follows 2 Chronicles 3:4 the same way. Gate heights, the rear building's shape, and the altar (ch. 43) have no such anchor and stay schematic. Minor rooms — kitchens, singers' chambers, sacrifice tables (40:38–46; ch. 46) — are omitted for legibility.

The river (47:1–12) starts as a trickle south of the temple threshold and gains a full 1,000 cubits between each depth Ezekiel wades through — ankle, knee, waist, then too deep to cross. Modeled at true scale, that's roughly eight times the length of the entire walled precinct; the "The River" view pulls back far enough to show all four markers, which is also why the temple shrinks to almost nothing behind them.

The text gives no actual heights for any of this — only step counts — but 40:17–18 names a "lower pavement" beside the gates, set against a "higher" inner court. Read as two tiers rather than three, the outer gates' own floor is flush with the outer court around them, and both staircases (7 steps, then 8) climb at a matching, cubit-and-a-half-ish rise per step.
